Suffering from gout? Try a little vitamin C.
According to a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, the more vitamin C you take, the more protection you'll get from developing gout. In fact, for every 500 mgs you take, you'll decrease your risk by an additional 17 percent. Gout is a form of arthritis that's caused by a buildup of uric acid, and vitamin C seems to lower the levels of uric acid. Of course, this study deals with preventing gout. But if you're already suffering from it, go ahead an up your vitamin C intake as well. By itself, it's not going to cure gout. But when you combine it with other natural treatments, such as taking fish oils (1 to 3 g daily), baking soda (1/2 teaspoon in 6 oz of water), and adding cherries to your diet, you're bound to experience some relief.
Reason to live life on the D list
A new study indicates that a lack of vitamin D increases your risk of catching the flu or the common cold.
So what's to be done to make sure you get enough D this winter? Eat plenty of eggs, fish, and dairy products to do it the dietary way. Or you can fortify your body with a daily dose of supplemental vitamin D - up to several thousand IU without worry. But most importantly, expose yourself to as much sunlight as you can: go sledding, go for a snowy hike in the woods behind the house - even just sitting for 15 or 20 minutes a day in front of a sun-soaked window is better than nothing.
High price of statin drugs
....and the high cost to your health. Here's just a partial listing of the potential side effects:
• Muscle pain
• Liver disease
• Digestive trouble
• Kidney failure
• Rhabdomyolysis (the breakdown of muscle fibers that can result in death)
• Neuropathy (numbness, tingling, burning pain)
• Memory loss
Just imagine the additional price tag that comes with of any one of these side effects. The doctor's visits, the additional drugs, the diminished quality of life. Trust me, you'll breathe easier in the end if you stick with your inhaler, and skip the statins.

Did you know?
As you know, the sun's ultraviolet rays help your body produce vitamin D.
But did you know that one of the reasons vitamin D is crucial to good heath
is because it helps your body produce natural antibiotics that can help fight
both viral and bacterial infections?
In fact, widely used in the 1930s, 40s and early 50s, "photoluminescense therapy"
has been proven time and time again to help treat serious viral or bacterial infections
that would otherwise require powerful, and sometimes dangerous, drugs.
For more information on photoluminescense therapy, or to find a doctor
who uses the procedure, check out www.acam.org or www.medical-library.com.
